Despite the current challenging and uncertain times, we’re seeing the best of people – the Aussie spirit sweeping the nation and people lending a hand to others in need.

So at a time when Australians seemingly need it the most, 7-Eleven Australia is launching a ‘Good Calls’ initiative to celebrate and support humble heroes who are doing good deeds in the community. Enlisting the help of paralympian Dylan Alcott OAM, throughout May and June 7-Eleven is encouraging Aussies across the country to nominate a local legend – someone who is deserving of a 7-Eleven Good Call.

Be it a thoughtful neighbour supporting those who can’t get out of the house, or someone working to support their community by taking their incredible services online for those most vulnerable, 7-Eleven is giving special thanks with random acts of kindness that will come in all shapes and sizes.

From free fuel, to packages abundant with 7-Eleven goodies, or supplies that’ll continue to help our local heroes carry out their deeds, these Good Calls will surprise and delight those bringing the spirit of mate-ship to their local communities during these uncertain times. And who better to call upon than Dylan, who’s Aussie spirit has seen him dedicated to championing his community, particularly those more vulnerable.

“Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, we’ve seen so many everyday Aussies step up and lend a helping hand to people who need it most. And now the selfless, kind acts of these unsung heroes can be recognised with a 7-Eleven Good Call,” said Dylan.

“I was honoured to surprise and delight a few of these local heroes myself, people who have really stepped up and gone out of their way to do a little bit of good in these challenging times.”

To kick off the Good Calls initiative, Dylan gave special thanks to Sammy Swayn for his extraordinary efforts in launching local community group United Neighbours. Sammy has arranged letter drops to more than 30,000 people across Melbourne, one that contained a lengthy list of contact details of those willing to offer their assistance and support to people in need.

This has since seen thousands of vulnerable and elderly seek comfort in the kindness of strangers. Good Calls saw 7-Eleven reward Sammy with $4,000 funding to produce another 50,000 letters. It’s people like Sammy, doing selfless things to support their community, that 7- Eleven is looking to champion.

7-Eleven’s new Good Calls initiative follows its existing community partnerships program titled, 7-Eleven Good Cause. Good Cause focuses on food, migrants, youth and our local communities through partnerships with Second Bite, AMES Australia, Reach Out, and Salvation Army.
