A still from a live news report by US broadcaster CNN is getting roasted on social media after it described a protest that led to rioting and buildings being torched as “mostly peaceful”.
CNN reporter Omar Jimenez was reporting live from the US state of Wisconsin on protests following the police shooting of local man Jacob Blake who was shot in the back seven times after they discovered a knife in his car. Blake survived, however, is believed to be paralysed from the incident.
Jimenez appeared on screen in front of a looted and burning building and a gas mask around his neck when the “mostly peaceful” graphic appeared on screen.
“What you’re seeing behind me is one of multiple locations that have been burning in Kenosha, Wisconsin, over the course of the night,” Jimenez said before adding that the protests had started peacefully before turning violent.
“It wasn’t until night fell that things began to get a little bit more contentious. Things were thrown back and forth. Police started using some of those crowd dispersal tactics like tear gas, even playing very loud sounds to push them out,” Jimenez said.
Back in late May, Jimenez made global headlines after he was arresed live on air covering a Black Lives Matter’s demonstration in Minneapolis.
Once again, the hardworking reporter is making news, with social media having a laugh at his latest “peaceful” efforts. Check out some of the Twitter reaction below:
