Today’s Karl Stefanovic has been called out by feminist Clementine Ford after he mocked Meghan Markle for being anxious after her son’s nursery caught on fire.

While Markle’s son wasn’t in the nursery at the time, the fire broke out. It was still one of those scary near-miss experiences.

Markle opened up on her new podcast about the scary experience. Understandably Markle said the whole experience left her feeling, “Shaken!” She was particularly upset because afterwards, she had to leave her son with a Nanny to attend to her royal duties.

Still, to be clear, her son wasn’t in the room when the fire happened.

Meghan Markle has released her much-anticipated podcast, promising to share a new side of her life.#9Today | WATCH LIVE 5.30am pic.twitter.com/BLlbdHW4N0

Stefanovic’s response to Markle’s admission was slight amusement, and he said:  “So, just to get this right, the baby, was not even there?”

He added, “The baby’s not there when the fire catches, right? And because the baby wasn’t there, she was going to have difficulties going to a function? Oh, my God?” He even rolled his eyes.

Interestingly, Stefanovic’s response has caused quite a bit of backlash. Pedestrian wrote an article calling him out, and Feminist Clementine Ford took to Instagram to criticise him. She wrote, “It makes me think Karl has never spent more than a few minutes with any of his children.

“Of course, you’d be freaked out if there was a fire in a nursery, even if your baby wasn’t in there! All of the what-ifs would run through your mind, not to mention the additional stress Markle must have felt knowing that “protocol” was being observed so keenly.”

Of course, this is what happens when you give your opinion. People have their own opinions about it. Still, you can’t deny Stefanovic makes great television and Ford always has a thought-provoking take.
