Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has put its media account up for review, placing incumbent indy Yango on notice.
B&T understands that several agencies from have been invited to pitch alongside the incumbent.
Two years ago BYD appointed Yango to launch the brand and multiple vehicles in Australia. The company also works with creative agency TABOO.
Yango’s remit covers media strategy, planning and buying, and working with the senior management and marketing teams to maximise brand awareness and drive new vehicle sales.
BYD did not respond to B&T’s approach at the time the article was published while Yango declined to comment.
BYD is the largest electric vehicle manufacturer in the world, overtaking Elon Musk’s Tesla in 2023. In Australia, BYD was the eighth top-selling auto brand with 52,415 sales.
This year the Chinese carmaker plans to launch the Sealion 8 SUV and Seal 8 sedan.
Recently, BYD ran its ‘Flavours of Summer’ campaign to launch the affordable BYD ATTO 1 and ATTO 2 models, while last year the carmaker signed a $10 million shirt sponsorship deal with the Sydney Roosters NRL team.
BYD’s review follows another Chinese carmaker, Geely, which has also reviewing its media account.
