The Australian Government has launched the Federal campaign “Beat Cybercrime in Your Downtime”, created by BMF, encouraging Australians to use their downtime to take control of their cybersecurity.
Cyber crime is an increasing problem for Australians and SMEs across the country. It is estimated that $29 billion per year is the total cost of cyber crime to the Australian economy with over 2.8 million Australians falling victim to some sort of scam in 2019 alone.
The campaign heroes everyday, human acts of cybercrime protection, focusing on how easy it can be to stay on top of your online security. Whether it’s updating a password from the comfort of your own sofa, or while in the middle of a beauty routine – protecting your identity has never been so simple.
Richard Woods, head of account management at BMF said: “We often assume cyber crime is just about protecting what’s in our bank accounts, but it’s about protecting something far more precious – our identity and personal information.”
A Department of Home Affairs spokesperson said: “We want Australians to rethink the importance of cybersecurity and rethink how valuable their personal information and identity can be to online criminals. It’s up to each and everyone of us to protect ourselves, our data and our identity. With the Government’s free online tools at cyber.gov.au, learning how to protect yourself is more accessible than ever.”
The campaign is being rolled out nationally and includes TV, social and digital executions.
