Brendon 'Baz' McCullum.

Seven Network and Triple M have bolstered their commentary line-ups with the return of recent England Test coach and New Zealand captain, Brendon McCullum.

Returning to Seven’s commentary box for the first time since the 2019-20 summer, and making his Triple M Cricket debut, the man more affectionately known as Baz will line up alongside the commentary team for the Australia vs New Zealand Test Series, which starts in Perth on Wednesday, 9 December on Seven, 7plus and Triple M.

Will Seven and Triple M rename the commentary team BazBox?

In a coup for cricket fans, McCullum will line up alongside Ricky Ponting on both Seven and Triple M, with Ponting also named as Triple M Cricket’s latest signing at today’s Upfront.

Considered one of New Zealand’s greatest ever batsmen, McCullum led the Black Caps to their first ICC World Cup Final in 2015 and in 2014 became the first New Zealander to notch a Test triple hundred – scoring 302 runs against India.

Known for his fearless mindset and sharp analysis in the commentary box, McCullum will be a welcome voice for cricket fans in Australia, following a warm reception from Seven’s viewers in 2019.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be coming back to Australia and reuniting with Seven’s commentary team and meeting the brilliant crew at Triple M,” McCullum said.

“I have such fond memories of working with the team back in the summer of 2019-20.

“Australia versus New Zealand always has a bit of an edge to it. I’ve lived this rivalry as a player, so I’m looking forward to sitting on the other side of the fence, having a bit of fun with the Seven team and hopefully giving viewers some insight into what’s unfolding in the middle.

“Australia are hard to beat on home soil. They’ve got an incredible amount of experience, but there are also some new faces coming through, and that creates an opportunity for New Zealand. They’ll be up for the fight, and I think we’re in for a really compelling series.”

“We’re excited to welcome Brendon McCullum back to Australia and to both Seven and Triple M for the Australia v New Zealand Test Series,” said Southern Cross Media Group director of sport – TV, audio and streaming, Chris Jones.

“Baz is one of the most natural media performers in world cricket. We saw first-hand during his time with Seven how much he brought to the coverage, and how exceptionally well he gelled with our team both on and off camera.

“He understands how the game is being played, coached and thought about right now, and when you combine that contemporary insight with his sharp analysis, he brings a perspective few others in world cricket can match.

“We know Australian cricket fans will love having him back, and we’re thrilled to have him joining our world-class commentary teams across Seven and Triple M for what promises to be another extraordinary Test series.”

Brendon McCullum and Ricky Ponting, are joined by Triple M commentators Mark Taylor, Mark Waugh, Merv Hughes, Greg Blewett, Cal Ferguson, Kate McCarthy, Mark ‘Howie’ Howard, James Brayshaw, Jack Heverin, Mitchell Johnson, Dan Ginnane and more.

Triple M will also welcome back Ian Botham for the historic 150th anniversary Test at the MCG in March 2027, as Australia takes on England. Triple M’s cricket coverage will be available across all metro markets, with every broadcast also available to stream free on LiSTNR.

In other news, World Cup-winning captain and Australian cricketing legend, Michael Clarke is set to join Nath Roye and Emma Chow on 2DayFM Breakfast from Monday, 11 January 2027, bringing a familiar voice, strong opinions, plenty of humour, and a healthy dose of competitive edge to Sydney mornings.

Clarke’s addition builds on the momentum Nath and Emma established across 2026, creating a new three-person Breakfast show with three distinct personalities and perspectives on the moments that matter to Sydney.

Since joining forces in 2024, Nath and Emma have steadily built their audience, increasing Breakfast share across four consecutive GfK surveys to 4.9 per cent in Survey 6, 2026, and growing by two share points since the end of 2025.

An experienced broadcaster in his own right, Clarke brings years of radio, cricketing commentary, and podcasting experience to the show. Now on 2DayFM Breakfast with Nath, Emma and Clarke, listeners will hear Michael beyond cricket.

On joining 2DayFM Breakfast, Michael Clarke said: “I’m extremely excited to join 2Day. I grew up in the Western Suburbs listening to the station, so to now have the opportunity to be a part of a station I’ve always loved is special.

“I’ve been incredibly lucky where my career has taken me, now FM Breakfast radio is a completely new challenge and one I’m excited to get stuck into! Nath and Emma are absolute superstars, I have enormous respect for what they’ve built, and to be a part of this team is a dream come true. I can’t wait to get in the studio with Nath and Emma and make the best show we can for Sydney.”

“Nath and Emma have built real momentum across 2026, and we’re focused on accelerating their growth as we continue to invest in 2DayFM and our Sydney audience,” said Amanda Lee, SCA’s head of Hit Network metro content.

“We have been really intentional about adding Michael into this partnership. Michael is an experienced broadcaster, one of Australia’s most recognisable sporting figures, and someone with a clear point of difference in the market.

“The chemistry between Nath, Emma, and Michael was immediately obvious – and they sound fun! They each bring distinct personalities, experiences, and opinions, and we believe this will make for a compelling Breakfast show for Sydney.”

Clarke will join 2DayFM Breakfast from Monday, 11 January 2027.
