Of all the horrific and downright bizarre images that came out of the Taliban’s takeover of the Afghanistan capital Kabul, was arguably members of the militant group exercising in a deserted gym. And riding dodgems, too.
And now a European gym chain has unwisely decided to use the images in a Twitter campaign to spruik its spin classes!
PureGym is one of Europe’s biggest fitness chains with 1.7 million members across 500 gyms in the UK, Denmark, Switzerland and Poland.
However, someone in the PureGym social media team is copping a bollocking today after using the image of the militant group in a now deleted tweet.
Responding to a customer’s enquiry about spin class times, PureGym posted the offending image alongside the tweet: “You can get a full list of the classes and the times they commence at on the homepage of your gym! If you are unable to find this then please drop us a DM with the gym you are interested in can advise you further on this!”
For its part, PureGym quickly pulled the tweet and apologised for any harm done.
A spokesperson for the fitness chain telling the UK’s The Independent: “PureGym receives thousands of enquiries from members and the general public on Twitter each week.
“In this instance a member of the PureHelp team replied to a video unrelated to PureGym having mistaken it as a question about class timetables. As soon as the error was identified the tweet was deleted.”
