Masterchef cracks one million

With an absence of singing and renovation reality shows, Ten’s Masterchef managed to crack one million viewers in its first elimination episode for the season, pulling in 1.001 million and being the most watched non-news show.

The reality cooking show settled comfortably in fifth place behind the Seven and Nine news programs in the top 20 most watched shows, according to OzTam preliminary ratings.

Near the end of last month Ten’s Modern Family episode set in Australia also managed to just crack the million mark with a total of 1.049 million people tuning in to the episode.

Despite the result for Masterchef being the highest number of viewers for the show so far this season, it wasn’t enough to pull the network to first or second place.

Nine took out the top prize with a total combined share of 26.4% for all free-to-air viewers, with the network’s main station grabbing 19.9% of the share.

Nine News pulled in the most viewers overall with 1.154 million, as The Footy Show at 8.40pm was the network’s most watched non-news program, coming in 14th place with 651,000 viewers.

Nine has dominated the free-to-air share this week, pulling in the highest share for the past four nights.

Seven has been behind Nine this week looking towards the total share, with last night’s result showing Seven came in second again with a share of 25.9%.

Seven’s primary channel grabbed 16.9% of the network’s share with Home and Away at 7pm being the most watched non-news program, coming in 7th position with 909,000 viewers.

Ten took out the bronze last night with a total share of 22.6% despite the Masterchef win with Ten’s main channel seeing a share of 16.3%.

Ten’s repeat episode of Law and Order: SVU also managed to scrape into the top 20 with 581,000 viewers, making it place 18th.

ABC came in fourth with a total share of 19% with ABC1 grabbed 14.1% of the network’s share.

ABC’s most watched non-new program turned out to be Call the Midwife at 8.30pm, seeing 9th place and 802,000 viewers.

SBS came fifth with a total share of 6% and SBS One seeing a 4.6% share.
