GroupM has teamed up with leading tech and media firms to launch a new staff development program that has the double advantage of ensuring its agencies and clients stay ahead of major technological and media developments.

Here's the release:

"Australia’s biggest media buying group, GroupM, has teamed up with leading tech and media firms to launch a new staff development program that has the double advantage of ensuring its agencies and clients stay ahead of major technological and media developments.

How does a week in San Francisco sound, with a day spent in each of the offices of Facebook, Yahoo, Google, Twitter and Pandora?

That is exactly what five GroupM employees – chosen from Maxus, MEC, Mediacom, Mindshare and Agency M – will be doing every quarter. Each year, 20 employees from all levels of seniority will have the opportunity to participate in the program, dubbed Tech Planet, and share their learnings with the group agencies and clients when they return.

“This is a great opportunity to take our best and brightest to Silicon Valley four times a year to see the latest trends, developments and emerging technologies from the world’s leading media brands,” said GroupM Australia Chief Investment and Knowledge Officer Danny Bass (pictured).

“For us, it’s about identifying and rewarding our best talent and a way of ensuring our agencies and clients are across all major technological and media developments. We see this as a conduit to sparking motivation, inspiring employees to go the extra mile, increasing productivity and retaining the best talent in the Australian marketplace.”

The first Tech Planet team arrives in Silicon Valley in April.

The program is in addition to existing GroupM staff development and training programs, such as Aspire and the agencies’ individual training programs.
