On what planet is it acceptable to undress images of women using AI technology?
This fad has flourished on Elon Musk’s X (formerly known as Twitter) for weeks without any response until the media got hold of it.
If this bloke can fly humans to Mars, how can he not prevent this?
We know he has at least a dozen kids (the real figure may never be revealed) so why does he think it is cool for soft pornography to appear on the social media platform he now controls?
Last year, when Musk was in Trump’s good books, advertisers paid lip service (after fleeing) to this platform in the US, which served them no good on their marketing plans and budget.
I would be shocked if any major brand would want to pay and play in this space anymore.
On Grok it is now about individuals telling Grok not to alter their images, which highlights a major problem with user generated platforms. Catch them after the damage has been done and flagged.
What this case highlights is a bigger issue about the use of AI and the complete lack of guardrails to police it.
Big tech has bended the knee, and paid millions to Donald Trump and his family, to deflect any form of regulation against AI technology.
This might be a small and nefarious case of why regulation needs to exist, but it should ring alarm bells for regulators across the world.
Ofcom in the UK has taken notice, and the eSafety commissioner in Australia is also asking questions.
But the bigger picture is simple: regulate AI tech before it can abuse people in this way.
Have we not learnt anything from the lack of regulation around social media and the societal harms it has caused?
Big tech lobby bros are laughing at this. Politicians need to shape up.
There is so much more on the line if AI tech gets the same free reign that social media abused, and it shouldn’t be left to the media to hold them to account.
