Eagle-eyed NRL fans might have spotted that Menulog remains on Rabbitohs jerseys, despite the takeaway delivery firm no longer operating in Australia. Which raises the question: why?
B&T understands the jerseys for 2026 season were printed long before the news of Menulog ceasing its operations in Australia broke. B&T also understands that the agreement to continue with the same strip in 2026 was in order to not have to reprint all the jerseys for the retail program.
“Menulog has been a proud sponsor of the South Sydney Rabbitohs since 2020. Although we ceased Australian operations in late 2025, the brand will continue to appear on the 2026 Rabbitohs jersey, as both parties agreed to honour the commercial commitment through the remainder of the season. This ensures consistency and continuity for the club’s members and supporters,” a spokesperson for Just Eat Takeaway told B&T.
In November of 2025, parent company Just Eat Takeaway.com pulled the plug on the delivery service in Australia. This followed a series of challenging circumstances in the market, and was so it could focus on growing its food delivery brands in Europe, the UK and Ireland.
However, the Rabbitohs has confirmed to B&T that the decision does not impact Menulog’s existing commercial partnerships tied to the brand in Australia, but it will not feature on any of the 2027 assets.
“As part of the long-stranding partnership, and in agreement with Menulog, their branding will continue to appear on our 2026 playing jersey. This ensures continuity for our members and supporters and upholds the integrity of our commercial commitments,” said Claudia Lovett, South Sydney Rabbitohs’ executive and PR manager.
B&T first noticed that Menulog’s logo kept its primary position of just above the player’s numbers when we were sat quietly watching on as Rabbitohs winger Alex Johnston attempted to break a 53 year record. And unless you live under a rock, you would have seen the moment when “AJ” crossed the try line for the 213th time, etching himself into the NRL history book.
As much as Menulog would have appreciated the earned media of being apart of Johnston’s record breaking 213th try and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese storming the field in the second half with thousands of fans, we are not to sure what the publicity does for a brand that no longer trades in the Country.
