COVID’s been a downright bastard for just about everyone for the past two years and, over in Sweden, it’s also been playing havoc with would be lovebirds.
The pandemic has placed such a strain on the country’s civil marriage ceremonies that many couples have had to delay their wedding day for months, if not years.
And, so, who should step in to fill the void? None other than a local McDonald’s outlet.
The brainchild of creative agency Nord DDB, budding romantics were invited to the local Macca’s restaurant in Nacka near Stockholm to be officially married in the restaurants Drive-Thru!
Some 60 couples took up the opportunity and, yes, it was all legal. The couples had to arrive with an approved marriage license application while the service was conducted by a bona fide celebrant.
There were decorations, Champagne, a classic car, official photographer, a balloon-arch backdrop for social media posts, and McDonalds-branded flower bouquets.
The actual marriage certificate came in the form of a McDonald’s receipt. Check out more images at the bottom of this article.
