Make A Short Film For A Good Cause And Take Home Some Big Booty

Hey Adlanders, you’re all pretty creative – probably why you’re in this business – so here’s another chance to capture some of that extra creativity threatening to burst out the seams and put it to good use.

Short film contest Tropfest is putting  its weight behind a new short film competition from NPS MedicineWise which is aiming to raise awareness and help fight antibiotic resistance this cold and flu season.

The competition is called Save the Script and calls on anyone and everyone to create a short film about the dangers of antibiotic resistance.

It’s getting pretty chilly around Australia as winter is coming and antibiotic resistance is one of the greatest threats to human health today, the World Health Organisation has warned.

According to the NPS website: “The development of antibiotics was one of the most important advances of medicine. Now, because of the overuse and misuse of antibiotics, bacterial infections that were once easily cured with antibiotics are becoming harder to treat.”

So to raise awareness of the dangers of the health issue, NPS has launched a short film competition to highlight the problem.

Whether you’re a budding filmmaker who has dabbled in iMovie in your spare time, or a full-blown TVC producer, or anyone who has a creative idea, you’ve got until the end of May to get your entry in. As well as having $10,000 in prizes up for grabs, the winning film will be screened at Tropfest.

The brief:

Make an award-winning short film/community service announcement (CSA) of up to 45 seconds about the threat of antibiotic resistance and how awareness of #savethescript can help fight this global issue.

Tropfest managing director, Michael Laverty said this competition provides filmmakers with a new opportunity to further their skill and experience.

“Storytellers have a unique opportunity to use their craft to raise awareness about this global health threat,” he said. “We at Tropfest know Australians to be incredibly creative and we’re excited about the unique challenge this competition presents. We’re looking forward to seeing what stories are shared.”

CEO of NPS MedicineWise, Dr Lynn Weekes, added: “Antibiotic resistance is here – it’s a serious health issue already in our community, but there are simple actions individuals can do to help stop its spread. Without action today we face a future where antibiotics are no longer effective against bacterial infections.”
