Seven’s cooking reality TV show My Kitchen Rules (MKR) had a strong launch, but could only settle for second place in Monday prime time TV.

MKR reached 1.85 million viewers, up 17 per cent on 2025, and the biggest launch episode since 2018.

The show, watched by an average TV audience of 956,000, opened with night, Queensland mother-and-daughter duo Krysten and Lucy hosting contestants at their Gold Coast pop-up ‘restaurant’ Puggles.

The meal prep had a couple of hiccups, but didn’t impress one of the contestants, food stylist Jane, who hardly touched her plate leaving the hosts questioning whether she had been “disrespectful”.

Meanwhile Nine’s The Block continues to pull up strong numbers, reaching 1.94 million with an average audience of 1.19 million.

A ’tool theft saga’ was the highlight of last night’s episode as tensions between the contestants continued to build.

Can Blockheads handle the heat better than contestants in MKR kitchens—only time will tell.
