In the TV Ratings overnight, the AFL and Seven swooped in on the top spot in the absence of Married At First Sight. More than two million Aussies tuned in for the top of the table clash between the Sydney Swans and the Hawthorn Hawks.
The total TV national average audience of 727,00o people were treated to a back and fourth encounter with the lead changing six times alone in the first quarter. But, for the Hawthorn faithful that made the trip to the stadium last night, they were rewarded with an entertaining 17 point victory over the Sydney Swans—who came into the match undefeated.
For the Swans, last nights match marked the first time the team had to run out with either of their superstars in Isaac Heeney or Errol Gulden.
Over on Nine, a gritty, blockbuster clash between two heavy weights of the competition last year attracted a total TV national reach of 1,616,000 and an average audience of 737,000. In miserable, nation’s capital conditions, a resilient Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs side held on to a narrow 14-10 win over the Canberra Raiders.
Gogglebox was 10’s most watched entertainment program of the evening, pulling in a reach of 843,000 and an average audience of 501,000. For the ABC—journalist Heather Ewart and her visits to remote towns and regions to discover some of Australia’s most inspiring and extraordinary communities—Back Roads was watched by 736,000 people.
