Last night, A Current Affair detailed the devastating calls from a youth prison officer’s family to launch a fresh examination into his death at work.

The episode brought in a Total TV National Reach of 1,477,000 and a Total TV National Average Audience of 955,000 for Nine.

Over on Seven, Home and Away won a Total TV National Reach of 1,319,000 and a Total TV National Average Audience of 894,000.

Channel 10‘s Big Brother, which launched on Sunday, raked in a Total TV National reach of 1,132,000 and a Total TV National Average Audience of 626,000.

A 13th housemate joined the house on Monday night, and she’s now getting to know the other housemates. Jane, a 67-year-old single mum and self-confessed Donald Trump enthusiast had viewers split in their opinions. They were quick to weigh in, with one declaring “we’ve just voted in our new national treasure”, while another sighed, “oh great, Grandma MAGA has entered the chat.”

ABC‘s 7.30 won a Total TV National Reach of 1,182,000 and a Total TV National Average Audience of 716,000.

On A Current Affair, the family of a Brad Turney, father-of-five died while working at a south-western Sydney jail. His family has called for a fresh investigation into his death.

Turney was working as a manager at Reiby Youth Justice Centre in February 2022 when two inmates attempted to start a riot. Turney intervened and tried to restrain the inmates but was attacked by another. Minutes later, he went into cardiac arrest and was treated by a nurse on-site.

An ambulance was called and he was rushed to hospital but within two hours he was dead. The situation devastated his loved ones, including fiancée Ashlie Rogers and parents Glenys and Alan.

With so many questions, his parents asked to see the CCTV of the incident.

“A mother knows, I had that gut feeling that something wasn’t right, I wanted to see what happened,” Glenys said.

“We sat there for 25 minutes watching these two juveniles inside pumping themselves up, pulling the roof out, smashing emergency exits, getting a garbage bin, cutting that up to get a weapon. They got one down and got him out, but this other one he just ran at Brad’s shoulders straight into his chest into the wall. He pushed him up against the wall and elbowed him in the chest,” Alan said.

The youth prison officer and his colleagues finally got the upper hand, but not long after, Turney collapsed.

The family wants the CCTV from Youth Justice and believes it needs to be examined properly in a fresh investigation. “For some reason here, they don’t want us to have the video footage,” Alan said.

The Turneys want the investigation into their son’s cause of death re-opened and they’ve never been told if the inmate who attacked him was charged. The family also wants better conditions for prison workers.
