The Melbourne Cup has topped the ratings with an impressive total TV national reach of 2,316,000 and a national average of 2,079,000.
Those numbers are up from last year, when the race secured a national average audience of almost 200,000 fewer.

It was Jamie Melham who took home the win on Half Yours, making her only the second female jockey in history to win the historic race. A feat that is even more impressive when considering that just weeks prior, she became the first female to win the Caulfield Cup and the first in history to secure the double win.

Outsider Goodie Two Shoes came in at second place just ahead of Middle Earth, who plodded along at third.
“This is what we dream of,” Melham said after the win. “This is what we dream of when we first get our jockey license. You want to ride in the Melbourne Cup, let alone win the Melbourne Cup”.
“That’s something I’ve been thinking about all week, but … This feeling is indescribable. We just won the best race in Australia.”
