Each month on B&T, Fabulate’s product and marketing director, Lucy Ronald, breaks down what’s trending on TikTok – and more importantly, why it matters.
Just when we thought the internet couldn’t possibly come up with another way to overshare… July said, just wait.
This month, everyone suddenly had a Netflix documentary in the works, Beyoncé accidentally gave us the soundtrack to every lucky win, creators convinced us we all need a robot vacuum, and somehow a seven-year-old singing about eastern rosellas became one of the internet’s most wholesome obsessions.
All this and more took over our feeds in July. Catch up on the trends from July below.
Preparing for my Netflix Documentary
What I’ve learnt from this one is that we’re all one mildly inconvenient life event away from a Netflix documentary. Creators are parodying those dramatic interview cutaways by sitting in a chair, clipping on an imaginary microphone and preparing to tell the story that changed their life forever. Except instead of surviving a cult… it’s something completely ridiculous. My favourite part of this trend? Netflix jumping on it perfectly here.
@reece_christinee Just need to be hangry before we start rolling cameras😅 #netflixdocumentary #trend #funny #netflix #trending
“The program I’m running isn’t too strict”
This one’s for everyone who’s ever made a promise to themselves that lasted about four hours.
Creators are sharing the exact moment they abandon a healthy habit, budget or life goal before lip-syncing, “You know what… maybe the program I’m running isn’t too strict.”
Scrolling TikTok for two hours before bed when you swore you were going to decrease your screentime? It happens. Friday beers when you were meant to be avoiding the pub? You know what… maybe the program isn’t too strict after all.
I’m too shy to take a picture
Can we all take a moment for the friends behind the camera? The trend starts with someone saying, “Nooo, I’m too shy to take a picture here,” before revealing the photographer balancing on a pole, lying on the footpath or hanging halfway into a bush trying to get the shot.
Every effortless Instagram photo has someone looking absolutely ridiculous just outside the frame.
@olliemuhl Are you kidding me?
‘I didn’t have a pen and paper’ (Beyoncé)
Our queen Beyonce is back on our feeds and for good reason.
An old clip of her talking about writing Partition has become the internet’s favourite humblebrag, with creators using it to show all the times they completely winged something… and it somehow worked out perfectly.

5 Things Worth My Money
If you’re trying to save money, I’d probably skip these videos.
Creators are sharing the five purchases they swear are worth every cent and my wishlist has grown considerably because of it.
Robot vacuums seem to make almost every list (at least on my algorithm), alongside Kindles, walking pads and LED masks. Anyway, consider them all added to cart (I’m a victim of my own industry).
@little.whitey 5 things that are always worth the money 💳
Yellow text on screen
If you’ve noticed random videos of car windows, coffees and train rides taking over your feed, you’re not alone.
Creators are pairing everyday footage with oversized yellow text sharing oddly specific thoughts, confessions and observations that somehow feel painfully relatable. Nothing crazy is happening on screen, yet somehow you watch the whole thing.
@riley.hemson km 2 or 20 ???? not even the vest police know xx
Eastern Rosellas
I’ll leave you today with something that’s not technically a trend, but it is a viral moment that warmed Australia’s hearts this month. This month, seven-year-old Miles Phillips won the internet after his song about eastern rosellas took off across TikTok and Instagram, earning covers from Ball Park Music and Megan Washington, with plenty already calling it a Triple J Hottest 100 contender.
The timing couldn’t have been better – the same week AI-generated music was dominating headlines, the internet fell in love with a kid singing about birds. Turns out authenticity still wins!

Sorry in advance if you spend the next week singing “they’re flying over my HEEEEEAD NOW.”
