Australia’s night of nights has been cancelled. The 62nd TV WEEK Logie Awards, which were due to take place in November. have been called off again!
The awards – which were cancelled last year due to the pandemic – are once again unable to go ahead because of Australia’s evolving COVID-19 situation. Organisers felt they could no longer plan ahead for a safe event for guests to attend.
This means Australians will be denied the pleasure of hoping to catch a morning show host still drunk from the night before on television the next day, and Aussie red carpet reporters will not have to go through the stress of trying to work out which young starlets are from Home and Away and which are from Neighbours.
It also means Tom Gleeson is still the presiding Gold Logie winner, despite the fact his whole campaign to win a Logie involved him making fun of the Logies. Allegedly this campaign even upset Australian treasure and Gold Logie nominee Amanda Keller.
With the Awards postponed last year and cancelled this year the eligibility period for the 2022 TV WEEK Logie Awards will be from 1st January 2021 through to 31st March 2022.
The date for the 62nd TV WEEK Logie Awards will be announced in early 2022 and will once again be telecast on Nine and 9Now.
Fiona Connolly, group publisher at Are Media said: “We are disappointed to have to cancel this year’s TV WEEK Logie Awards after charging ahead with plans to return for a bigger than ever event on the Gold Coast this November.
“Unfortunately, our current COVID cases and travel restrictions leave us no choice. But we will return to Queensland mid-2022 and promise the TV WEEK Logie Awards will bring an overdue and deserved night of glamour, celebration and recognition of Australia’s outstanding television industry.”
