The Bold And The Beautiful Set To Use Blow-Up Dolls For Coronavirus-Friendly Sex Scenes

While coronavirus cases in Australia appear to be getting under control, the same can’t be said for the US. However, in Hollywood, the show must go on, and hit soap Bold and the Beautiful is wasting no time resuming production.

Known for throwing in a steamy scene every now and again, one would be forgiven for asking how the show plans to reimagine those close contact scenes to comply with social distancing laws.

The answer is simple: blow-up dolls.

Bold and the Beautiful certainly isn’t the first when it comes to using blow-up dolls in coronavirus times, with a restaurant roasted online for using “creepy” dolls to fill-up empty seats upon reopening. Meanwhile, a Korean football team recently came under fire for using blow-up sex dolls to fill empty stadium seats.

And now in order for actors to remain safe in those critical romance scenes, Bold and the Beautiful is also employing the blow-up doll tactic.

In an interview with Forbes, executive producer and head writer Bradley Bell conceded sex scenes would be particularly tricky, but revealed he’d found a solution. 

“Safety is our utmost concern and will be as we return to production,” he said.

“We’ll really rely on our directors to employ all techniques. (Actors will) shoot eight feet (2.5m) apart, following all the safety standards, but use the tricks of the business.”

However, when it comes to sex scenes, producers will turn to life-size dummies.

While in some situations, the stars’ real-life spouses will serve as stand-ins when physical intimacy is required, in others, producers will bring in blow-up dolls.

“We have some lifelike blow-up dolls that have been sitting around here for the past 15 years, that we’ve used for various other stories – (like) when people were presumed dead,” Bell said.

“We’re dusting off the dolls and putting new wigs and make-up on them and they’ll be featured in love scenes.”

Romantic, isn’t it?
