The Australian Open has begun drumming up excitement for its 2027 tournament with a fun, supporter-led, reality series to feature on socials.
For passionate tennis fans from all over the globe to get involved, they just have to prove why they are the ultimate supporter, with applications now open for Superfans.
As the Australian Open continues to connect with its growing global fanbase year-round, Superfans will capture the energy, emotion and excitement that make tennis one of the world’s most passionately followed sports.
The audition process asks a simple question: Who is your favourite player and what makes you their number one fan?
Fans are encouraged to submit audition videos showcasing their dedication, personality and unwavering loyalty, with applications now open. The deadline for submissions is 7 October 2026.
From thousands of hopefuls, six superfans will be selected and flown to AO 2027 for the experience of a lifetime. But their journey comes with a unique twist.
Each superfan’s fate in the series will be tied directly to their favourite player. As long as their tennis idol continues winning, they remain in the series. The moment their favourite player is eliminated from the Australian Open, their Superfans journey comes to an end.
“This series will bring audiences closer to the Australian Open than ever before by telling the tournament story through the eyes of the fans themselves,” said Darren Pearce, Tennis Australia’s chief content officer.
Throughout the tournament, cameras will follow the six selected fans from arrival to elimination, capturing their unfiltered reactions as they watch practices, experience the Australian Open behind the scenes and cheer on their heroes from the stands.
Pearce added the series reflects the tournament’s commitment to celebrating fans and engaging audiences in new ways.
“The Australian Open has one of the most passionate and diverse fan bases in world sport. Superfans is about celebrating the people whose emotions rise and fall with every point and every match,” said Pearce.
“We’re always looking for new ways to connect with fans around the globe, and this series will bring audiences closer to the Australian Open than ever before by telling the tournament story through the eyes of the fans themselves.”
The series will create an ongoing stream of content across multiple platforms, with audition clips featured on social media and selected superfans appearing on podcasts, broadcasts and digital channels throughout the Australian Open season.
