TAXIBOX Takes Over Sydney’s Light Rail

Mobile storage brand TAXIBOX has wrapped Sydney’s Light Rail for peak moving season, turning every carriage door into a working replica of its storage unit.

For 16 years, TAXIBOX has been dismantling the way Australians store and move. The traditional model—driving to a facility, hiring a truck and cramming everything into a single day—was built around the business, not the customer. TAXIBOX flipped it. The storage unit comes to you, you get to pack at your own pace, and then it either stays on your property or is collected and taken to a secure facility.

Sydney is one of TAXIBOX’s biggest markets, and the country’s most competitive. To stay visible, defend share and own top-of-mind through peak moving season (October to January), the brand has taken over the Sydney Light Rail for three months.

The idea is simple: use moving media to sell storage that moves. Each light rail door doubles as a TAXIBOX storage unit. Every time the doors open and commuters stream in and out, the product demonstrates itself, thousands of times a day, across the city.

The wrap leans on the brand’s most recognisable assets: iconic yellow and black, TAXI checkers running the length of the carriages, and the longstanding campaign line set in oversized type: “Got Stuff? Need Space? Get TAXIBOX.”

The campaign extends into social with a short film following a couple on moving day as they attempt to move their life by public transport. Oversized items on platforms, boxes in carriages, chaos at every stop, before the film closes on the simpler answer: a real TAXIBOX storage unit.

“From day one, TAXIBOX has been about bringing storage to our customers instead of making them do all the work. When the light rail came up in a brainstorm, the doors were the giveaway. They open and close all day with people moving in and out. The vehicle moves; the space comes to you. That’s the TAXIBOX experience,” said, Ben Cohn, CEO, TAXIBOX

“Sydney is Australia’s most competitive storage market, so we needed media that did more than carry a message. A moving vehicle with opening doors was the closest thing to a live product demo we could put in front of commuters, thousands of times a day. TAXIBOX is Storage That Moves and the light rail fits perfectly,” added Shanthi Murugan, marketing director, TAXIBOX

“Sydney is Australia’s biggest market, so it makes perfect sense to use the city’s biggest kinetic media canvas as the centrepiece of TAXIBOX’s brand campaign. With Sydney’s streets and public spaces teeming with activity from October, the Light Rail wrap delivers exceptional visibility, scale and impact in the heart of the CBD. It’s been an absolute pleasure working with our wonderful clients at TAXIBOX to bring the ‘Got Stuff? Need Space? Get TAXIBOX’ message to life in such a bold, unmissable way,” added Gerard Max, strategy, communication and media director, Mustard Creative.
