We Are Social Wins Optus Social Media Account

Optus has appointed We Are Social as its brand spanking new social media agency.

The social agency is tasked with managing the small and medium social campaigns for the Aussie telco.

“With Optus repositioning itself as an entertainment and technology brand, we needed a partner who understood the challenges ahead and could elevate our presence across social channels,” said Ben White, managing director of marketing and product at Optus.

“We Are Social stood out during the pitch process. It has a strong history of working with brands in both the entertainment and sport space, and brings valuable creative and analytic expertise to the table.”

Suzie Shaw, managing director at We Are Social in Australia (pictured above right), “Optus recognises the power of putting social thinking at the heart of marketing, and that’s what we do.

“We are beyond delighted to be working with Optus and think this will give us the opportunity to create outstanding work.”

We Are Social joins the remit of other agencies already on the telco’s roster; Big Red, M&C Saatchi, The Works, Emotive, WiTH Collective, AKQA, and Thrive PR and Communications.

With attempting to stay ahead of the curve, Optus also recently announced a new music streaming offering that doesn’t eat up customers’ data, along with securing the rights to broadcast the English Premiere League, in combination with SBS.

Similarly, the telco has been upping its partnerships of late, with a decade-long deal with the Paralympic Games and wifi-sharing concept with ride-sharing app Uber.
