We Are Social, the socially-led creative agency network, has opened a new office in Hong Kong to further consolidate its global presence.
The move follows the agency opening a Madrid office in September and acquiring a majority stake in Dubai-based agency Socialize earlier this year.
Since launching the first Asia-Pacific We Are Social office in Sydney in 2010, additional openings in Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing have solidified the agency’s presence in the region and established a reputation for We Are Social as the agency that helps brands focus on creativity and human insight, rather than platforms.
The opening of the Hong Kong office – the agency’s 13th – is part of We Are Social’s strategy to accelerate growth with key openings and acquisitions around the world to give its clients leading insight and access to all major markets.
Donald Wong, who is a Hong Kong native, will run the office as head of We Are Social Hong Kong.
Wong has spent the past three years at We Are Social Shanghai before taking on this new role.
Wong will report to Pete Lin, who was recently promoted from China managing director to North Asia regional managing director.
Wong will oversee a team of social media specialists including account manager Yun Gu, who is relocating from We Are Social’s Paris office.
The Hong Kong office will service clients including BYD, TOUCHBeauty, and GMAC, which is the organising body behind the business school entrance exam, GMAT.
Wong said: “Hong Kong has always been the bridgehead linking the East and the West.
“It is therefore a natural and logical next step for We Are Social to move into this strategic position to better service our global-minded and global partners as well as our existing South China client base.
Lin said: “Entering Hong Kong has been our ambition for more than three years. The Pearl River Delta Region is home to a distinct mix of well-established and innovative new brands.
“By applying our social expertise, we believe we can help many brands in the region get much higher ROI on their marketing dollars.”
Nathan McDonald, We Are Social co-founder and global CEO, said: “In 2018 we are celebrating both our tenth anniversary year and our continued strong growth, with three new offices added to our global network.
“With this latest office opening we are bringing our expertise and insight to a new market, whilst bolstering our capabilities within the region.
“We’re incredibly excited to be expanding our presence in Asia as we continue to drive our strategic growth in some of the world’s most important markets.
“Asia is a booming economy built on a unique digital and technological landscape – offering its own set of opportunities and challenges for brands looking to connect with audiences online.”
We Are Social was founded by Robin Grant and Nathan McDonald in 2008 and celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.
It has offices in New York, Madrid, London, Paris, Milan, Munich, Berlin, Dubai, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing and Sydney.
We Are Social became part of BlueFocus Communication Group in 2014.
