Seven West Media has reportedly made a move in the cricket commentary stakes, with Ricky Ponting agreeing to a deal with the free-to-air broadcaster.
The terms of the deal were agreed in principle last week, According to The Australian.
Seven declined to comment when contacted by B&T. However, B&T understands that nothing has yet been signed by the broadcaster or Ponting.
Ponting was previously a commentator for Ten’s coverage of the Big Bash League, which will now be aired on Seven and Foxtel as part of their new broadcast rights deal with Cricket Australia.
The news comes after Seven and Foxtel were reportedly competing for the signature of the King of Spin, Shane Warne, as they look to differentiate their broadcast offerings, while another former Ten cricket commentator, Adam Gilchrist, has joined Fox Sports.
Seven also recently appointed Dave Barnham to head up its cricket division.
