The incredible Serena Williams might be drawing the curtain on her illustrious tennis career; however, it appears there’s still plenty of pay cheques to be had in adland.
Fresh from recently – and arguably strangely – appearing in a spot for Subway, Williams is back fronting a new ad for US streaming service DirecTV and, better still, she’s morphed into none other than Wonder Woman.
The ad’s a play on the recent movei release Wonder Woman 1984 and sees Williams time-trip back to a 1984 shopping mall to fight tennis ball-shooting robots and mid-80s clichés. Yes, you read that right.
Even better, there’s even a cameo from John McEnroe doing a perfect John McEnroe impersonation!
The spot’s the work of creative agency TBWA\Chiat\Day LA and coincides with DirecTV’s recent rebrand from AT&T TV.
There are also reports this will be the first in a string of movie-themed ads for the brand starring the tennis icon.
Look, the whole thing probably doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but it’s great fun and has Serena dressed as everyone’s favourite super heroine! Check out the nonsense below:
