Brisbane-based Rightscale Group, marketing and technology consultancies, has appointed Mitch Watkins to the newly created role of group financial controller.

He will oversee financial management for its specialist businesses which include CX and MarTech agency Triggerfish, and emerging global software and next-generation MarTech hosting company, Dataweavers.

Watkins (pictured) joins Rightscale Group from Essence, a WPP owned data and measurement driven media agency, where he served as financial controller for the EMEA region for more than two years.

Watkins brings over a decade of experience leading teams within the finance function, specialising in environments of change and transformation.

Ben Shapiro, Rightscale Group CEO said Watkins’s wealth of experience is exactly what the Group’s companies need to streamline financial processes, systems and navigate their future endeavours.

“His appointment marks the next stage of our business development and the implementation of our growth strategy, helping us evolve and expand both locally and abroad, in particular in the US, UK and Europe,” he added.

Prior to WPP, Watkins held roles at ASX listed corporates Suncorp & The Star Entertainment Group, after beginning his career at mid-tier global accounting firm BDO.

Watkins added, “with my interests and experiences in finance transformation, I’m excited to be part of such a progressive and forward-thinking group of businesses.”

“By establishing an efficient, robust and scalable finance function, I hope to support the business as it helps enterprises make the most of their MarTech investments to drive business transformation and growth.”

“I look forward to helping shape the next phase of growth for the business and helping them navigate their global expansion,” he said.

The announcement follows a suite of new client wins for Triggerfish including Independent Purchasing Cooperative (IPC), a Subway Franchisee-owned purchasing company based in the US, and a global fintech company also based in the US. Closer to home, the agency was recently appointed by New Zealand based utilities company, Trustpower and local real estate services company, DiJones.

Supporting this growth, the business has also made several new leadership appointments including Mirko Roettgers to the newly created role of Triggerfish general manager, Marc Rousseau as operations director, Triggerfish and John King as director of digital strategy, also for Triggerfish.

The group also recently appointed Josh Dickerson, to the newly created role of APAC regional sales director for Dataweavers, driving the expansion of the business in key international markets.
