Survey 5 of the radio ratings is out and Smooth FM has firmed its hold as the most-listened too station in Sydney, pulling away from 2GB.
In Melbourne, 3AW remained the most listened to station, though it slipped by just 0.1 per cent of share.
KIIS’ Kyle & Jackie hangover might seem to be abating, with the station’s share of the breakfast market dropping only 0.2 per cent.
Meanwhile, 2GB remains the most listened to breakfast show in the harbour city, with its share of the slot staying flat at 14.8 per cent.
Smooth is, by some margin, the most listened to drive show, with 14.1 per cent share, up 0.3 per cent. 2GB’s drive show dropped a per cent to 5.8 per cent share.
Triple M saw its breakfast share drop 0.7 per cent to 5.9 per cent. Its drive share, however, climbed 0.9 per cent to 7.8 per cent share.
In Melbourne, 3AW also kept hold of its title as the most listened to breakfast show. However, its share of the market dropped 0.6 per cent to 19.5 per cent. Its closest challenger, NOVA, climbed 0.4 per cent to 10.8 per cent share of the breakfast slot.
Gold topped Melbourne’s drive market with 10.7 per cent share, up one per cent. Smooth also climbed 0.5 per cent in Melbourne drive to 9 per cent. 3AW’s drive show climbed 0.2 per cent to 9.6 per cent share.
Smooth’s parent company, Nova Entertainment, also claimed it to be most listened to station in the country.
In a statement, Greg Byrnes, national content manager at Tapt Media — parent company of 2GB and 3AW — said: “Our brand of talk radio again dominates Australia’s biggest markets, and we thank those listeners who join our conversation every day.”
“2GB and 3AW have delivered standout results, particularly in the breakfast and morning shifts, and that momentum has powered a 10 per cent increase in audience across the network. We are also seeing a clear shift toward digital, with an extraordinary 20 per cent jump in streaming year-on-year, confirming that more Australians are tuning in on their devices than ever before.”
Matthew O’Reilly, head of broadcast content at SCA — parent company of Triple M and 2Day FM — said: “Consistency builds momentum, and Survey 5 demonstrates the impact of that approach across SCA’s Hit and Triple M networks. We’ve well-established our network’s market leadership in the Audience That Matters, and that leadership is on full display as Triple M wins a 29th consecutive survey for Men 25-54 and the Hit Network secures a fifth consecutive survey for Women 25-54.
“It’s also particularly pleasing to see the progress in Sydney. Nath & Emma have delivered the biggest Breakfast increase in the market, growing both share and audience, while 2Day FM recorded the largest share and audience growth of any Sydney station. We’ve backed our teams, stayed focused on the strategy and given our shows the time and support to build — and we’re seeing that translate into results.”
