Pepsi PNG has wasted no time jumping on the Papua New Guinea Chiefs bandwagon, signing NRL superstar Jarome Luai to a five-year deal.
The deal will see the current Wests Tigers five-eighth join the soft drink brand as its national ambassador, one year before he heads to the country to play for the Chiefs.
The deal is significant for Luai, who is the first player to sign with the PNG-based club ahead of its NRL debut.
In 2028, the PNG Chiefs will become the 19th team to compete in the NRL, marking a major milestone for Papua New Guinea as it prepares to have a team represent the nation in the competition for the first time.
Pepsi PNG took to Instagram to announce the signing.
“Pepsi PNG is proud to welcome Rugby League superstar Jarome Luai as our new Brand Ambassador,” the post read.
“Bold, fearless and impossible to ignore, Jarome brings the energy, confidence and attitude that Pepsi is all about. And #001? It’s more than a number—it marks the beginning of something big.
“Fittingly, Jarome celebrated the moment alongside PNG Kumul #001 Paul Chue —bringing together the proud history of PNG rugby league and one of the game’s biggest stars today.
“With Jarome’s signing for the PNG Chiefs opening an exciting new chapter, the momentum is only getting started.
“Welcome to Pepsi, Jarome. The future just got bolder.”

The five year deal that ends in 2031 exceeds Luai’s contract with the Chiefs that expires at the end of 2029. His obligations will also begin for the brand whilst he is playing for the Parramatta Eels, a club based in Sydney.
Luai spoke to Code Sports on the brand partnership.
“I’m incredibly proud to join the Pepsi and Pacific Industries family,” he said.
“Their commitment to supporting young people and giving back to communities across Papua New Guinea is something I really connected with, and I’m excited to be part of it.”
Paul Chue, managing director at Pacific Industries Limited explained that Luai was the perfect ambassador for Pepsi due to his roots.
“Jarome represents not only exceptional skill on the field but also humble beginnings and Pacific Islands Heritage that resonate deeply with the people of Papua New Guinea,” Chue told Code Sports.
“We believe in sport being a vehicle to inspire communities, develop youth potential, and foster unity across this beautiful country.
“As PNG moves closer to realising the dream of a national NRL team, Jarome’s role is a beacon for all aspiring players and fans alike.
“Jarome’s story is one of overcoming adversity. Growing up in tough circumstances with not a lot and still rising to become a leader in the game is a story many young Papua New Guineans can relate to and be inspired by.
“Rugby league is more than a sport here; it’s a way of life, a source of hope, and a positive outlet for young people to turn their lives around.”
