Brisbane creatives will gather in West End next month for The Design Party, a four-hour event featuring digital art, live painting, DJ sets and opportunities to connect with the city’s creative community.
Organised by PEDRATOPIA Collective, a not-for-profit initiative founded by the duo behind Brisbane creative studio PEDRA Studio, the event will run from 6pm to 10pm on Friday, 27 November, at Vacant Assembly.
The gathering will bring together artists, illustrators, motion designers and other creative talent for an evening of visual art, music and networking, with organisers aiming to strengthen connections across Brisbane’s creative scene.
“We are living through a cultural moment where we are more digitally interconnected than ever, yet experiencing unprecedented levels of social disconnect,” said Isabelle Debnam, executive director at PEDRA Studio.
“The Design Party is built to create a welcoming, inspiring physical space where local creatives can enjoy live music, showcase their visual art and form real, lasting relationships.”
The event will feature a digital projection wall showcasing work by Brisbane-based artists, a live painting activation and DJ sets from Sudaka Selekta.
Music will span house, disco, funk, Latin, Afro, jazz, hip-hop and soul. Attendees will also be able to browse limited-edition zines and merchandise, with light bites and a chill-out area available throughout the evening.
The event’s visual identity draws on Pixo, a form of cryptic rooftop lettering associated with São Paulo, Brazil. The custom typeface was created by Brazilian designer Petrus Pommé and Vietnamese designer Tom Truong, combining influences from their respective backgrounds with Brisbane’s underground creative culture.
“Pixo is São Paulo’s cryptic rooftop lettering, a way of claiming the city as your own,” said Pommé, creative director at PEDRA Studio.
“Tom and I took that raw energy and mixed it with the Asian underground to create a typeface that feels like both our worlds, made right here in Brisbane.
“That same spirit drives the whole night. We wanted something bold, disruptive and gallery-style that puts local talent front and centre.”
Brisbane-based brand and web studio Studio Quaglio also contributed to the event website’s design.
Capacity is capped at 100 people, with tickets priced between $15 and $25 through Humanitix. Proceeds will support future PEDRATOPIA Collective community initiatives.
Artist submissions for the digital showcase are open via [pedratopia.com](https://www.pedratopia.com).
The Design Party will take place on Friday, 27 November, from 6pm to 10pm at Vacant Assembly, 266 Montague Road, West End.
