AFL fans will know it’s been a tough year for the Adelaide Crows.
The hapless Crows are sitting at the bottom of the table and had been winless for 2020 before they defeated the Hawthorn Hawks this week.
And while some attributed the 35-point win to a lift in intensity and improved goal kicking, Optus has a different idea.
The telco last week released its latest ‘It Starts With Yes’ ad, which featured a man running a half-marathon in a chicken suit after losing a bet.
Attentive viewers will notice the wager in the question involved the Crows winning the game.

And according to Optus, it’s no fluke the release of the ad coincided with the Crows’ first win of 2020.
“Of course there will be nay-sayers out there, but we’d like to think our ad might have been just the omen required to get the boys over the line,” Optus head of marketing Melissa Hopkins said.
“We’re proud sponsors of Adelaide Crows no matter what the result, but it’s always great to see them back in the winner’s circle.
“I think we might be seeing a few more fans running around Adelaide in Chicken suits, before the end of the season.
“Let’s hope we see more of that Chicken and a few more Crow’s wins, without losing that number 1 draft pick of course.”
Optus indicated there may be more Crows-focused bets coming up in the future.
