Ogilvy Unveils Stirring Tribute To Soccer Great Diego Maradona

Ogilvy Social.Lab Amsterdam has teamed with European soccer magazine Panenka to unveil a tribute to Argentinian soccer great Diego Maradona who died last month at the age of 60.

The ad stars a young boy in Buenos Aires releasing a football from a humble suburban soccer pitch tied with balloons with the caption, “Diego, we send you a ball so you can play wherever you are.”

It finishes with Maradona’s own words: “I tried to be happy playing soccer to make all of you happy.”

Commenting on the work, Ogilvy executive creative director Tolga Büyükdoganay said: “Diego gave us everything in the world that could be done with a soccer ball. The least we could do is give him one back to make him happy.”
