NOVA Entertainment has signed a new partnership with New Zealand media company MediaWorks, giving Australian listeners access to New Zealand radio brands through NOVA’s digital audio platforms.
The agreement expands NOVA’s streaming offer with a broader mix of music formats and gives MediaWorks’ brands a new pathway to Australian audiences, including Kiwis living across the Tasman.
Eight MediaWorks stations are available to stream through NOVA’s Player apps: The Rock, Channel X, George FM, Magic, Mai FM, More FM, The Edge, and The Sound.
Leading the announcement is The Rock, a distinctive New Zealand radio brand. Available nationally on all streaming platforms including the Nova and Smooth Player apps, The Rock can also be heard on DAB+ in Brisbane and Melbourne.
“MediaWorks brings a brilliant portfolio of distinctive brands with deeply engaged audiences, so we’re delighted to be able to bring them to even more listeners in Australia on our own platforms and on DAB+,” said NOVA Entertainment’s chief growth officer, Adam Johnson.
“Our early data suggests there is a huge appetite for New Zealand content, with The Rock 2000 Countdown currently leading the charge. This partnership adds to the already stellar partner line-up we’re proud to deliver on NOVA’s streaming network, joining brands such as News24, FoxSports News and talkSPORT from the UK.”
“There has always been a huge appetite for our stable of radio brands, particularly given the number of New Zealanders living in Australia. With this partnership, we’re solidifying our commitment to giving Australian audiences access to a range of our stations, all easily accessible across NOVA’s platforms including the Nova Player,” said MediaWorks’ director of content, Leon Wratt.
The announcement launched in conjunction with The Rock 2000 countdown. The station’s annual countdown that celebrates the greatest rock songs of all time and culminates in The Rock 2000 Live in Auckland on 25 September. The eight-hour live concert countdown, streamed across The Rock, will feature performances from rock acts including Australia’s own The Living End and reveal the Top 20 greatest rock songs live on stage.
