Nike Wearing NFL Star Breaks Record But Doesn’t Win Adidas’ Island

As keen B&T readers would have noted last week, we ran a story about a promotion by sportswear giant adidas where it was giving away an island – yes, an island – to any NFL rookie who could break the record for the fastest ever 40 metre dash.

The one catch was, the player had to be wearing adidas shoes when he did it. The record has stood since 2008 and was 4.24 seconds.

Well, over the weekend Washington player John Ross better it with a time of 4.22 seconds. Problem for Ross was he’s contracted to Nike and so didn’t take home with the island prize.

Check out Ross’s run below, including a number of leg cramps prior to the feat.

Not that he seemed to worried either, later tweeting on giving up his island prize: “I can’t swim that well. And I don’t own a boat.”
