Nib has appointed international football player Mary Fowler as chief health and wellbeing officer, marking a milestone in the insurer’s commitment to promoting health, inclusion and female representation.

Fowler represents the next generation of athletes who inspire through performance and authenticity, values that align with nib’s focus on supporting healthier living.

Fowler joins a growing roster of women’s sporting partnerships, including the Newcastle Jets A-League Womens team, Newcastle Knights NRLW, Richmond AFLW, and NZ Auckland Blues, in addition to nib’s collaboration with the Minerva Network, which supports elite female athletes through mentoring and career leadership development.

As chief health and wellbeing officer, Fowler will work with nib to promote health literacy, inspire Australians to prioritise their health, and contribute to initiatives that champion diversity, equity and inclusion.

“Being healthy and looking after my body is my top priority; it’s how I perform, recover and stay grounded. I’m incredibly proud to represent women in sport, and to work with nib to inspire people to take care of their health and to feel confident in who they are. I’m excited to help encourage Australians move more, dream big and back themselves.” Fowler said.

Nib Group CEO and managing director Ed Close, said Mary Fowler embodies the future of Australian sport and brings an important voice to nib’s mission of better health and wellbeing for all communities:

“Mary is a true champion. She is someone who has achieved incredible success in her chosen field on a global stage,” Close said. “She typifies the energy and diversity of modern Australia, and we’re proud to have her join nib. Her values align strongly with ours; she’s authentic, inspiring and deeply committed to her health and wellbeing. Mary’s broad appeal and positive influence make her an ideal partner in helping us motivate and support our customers and the communities in which we operate.”

Women’s football, and Fowler’s place within it, is growing rapidly. Nielsen data shows women’s football is on track to become one of the world’s top five sports by 2030, with more than 800 million fans globally, and about 60 per cent of those fans will be female, making it one of the few sports where women form the majority.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup reached more than 2 billion people and resulted in sponsorship deals tripling from 2019. “Mary is at the heart of this momentum, and we’re incredibly proud to partner with her,” Close said.
