NGEN Raises $28k For UnLtd Charities Playing Games Inspired By Dodgeball

The industry’s young upcoming media specialists have pulled off some major fundraising activity recently, raising $28k for charity.

This fundraising feat included a large-scale dodgeball comp, an indoor games tournament and record entries to a pro-bono creative brief.

MFA people director Linda Wong said NGENers approached the fundraising challenge with the same ingenuity these young upcoming media specialists are known for.

“NGEN gives those with less than five years experience in our industry a voice – and that voice has well and truly been heard by UnLtd’s charities in recent weeks! The creativity and determination shown by our community has been truly remarkable,” she said.

The Sydney event was inspired by the 2004 film “Dodgeball”- in which Vince Vaughn entered a dodgeball comp in an attempt to earn the money needed to save his gym – only Sydney’s NGENers were ducking and weaving for a much more serious cause; undoing youth disadvantage.

In Melbourne it was “indoor games” including an afternoon of tunnel ball, coffee cup relays, three-legged races and the limbo, that saw NGENers competing for the industry’s philanthropic cause.

For both tournaments teams were required to raise funds to get into the game.

A record number of entries to the MFA Awards NGEN category for 2015 has also raised unprecedented funds. Each year this award category is aligned to one of UnLtd’s charities, with all entry fees donated to the cause. In 2015 more than 100 entries have been received equating to more than $10,000 in funds for UnLtd’s charity partner, The Mirabel Foundation.

Carol Morris, general manager of UnLtd said, “The last Media-i survey told us that the NGEN demographic has the greatest desire for our industry to do more to give back.

“What NGEN has pulled off is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when talented individuals, and organisations, collaborate to make a positive contribution to undoing the unacceptable issue of youth disadvantage.”

The events were entirely driven by the NGEN Charity Committees in Melbourne and Sydney. “This inspiring fundraising success story belongs to the dedicated NGEN Charity Committee members, who volunteered their time and ideas to make this happen and to them we say a massive thank you,” said the MFA’s Linda Wong.

NGEN is an initiative of the Media Federation of Australia (MFA). NGEN and its community of 2,300+ members are affiliating their philanthropic efforts with UnLtd. enabling NGEN to tap into a wide portfolio of non-for-profit organisations dedicated to undoing youth disadvantage.
