More Than Half Of Aussies Say They’re Addicted To Their Phones

New data taking a look at Australians’ phone and social media usage has pulled together some sobering stats — notably that almost 51 per cent of us consider ourselves addicted to our phones.

What’s more, the data produced by Reviews.org from a survey of 1,000 Australians, found that we check our phones an average of 7.8 times per hour — almost every eight minutes. However, despite that, less than a third of us regularly check our screen time and only 37 per cent have attempted a digital detox at any point.

The most popular apps among Aussie phone users are Facebook (28 per cent), TikTok (17 per cent), and Instagram (15 per cent).

Surprisingly, however, just 60 per cent of Australians use their phones on the toilet — we expected this to be 100 per cent.

Other troubling stats include:

  • 67 per cent say they find themselves scrolling mindlessly throughout the day
  • 78.5 per cent of Aussies check their phone within 10 minutes of waking up
  • 79 per cent check their phone in bed
  • 64 per cent check their phone while streaming a movie or TV show

While that is bad news for Australians health, it does pose promising news for social media marketers — every cloud and all that.
