Mixmag ANZ has onboarded a new network of City Reps across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, embedding local ambassadors in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra, Darwin, Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.
The City Rep program places a dedicated representative in each city to work directly with promoters, venues and grassroots collectives, deepening Mixmag ANZ’s connection to the communities it covers as the brand continues its expansion across the region.
Each City Rep wears three hats: a commercial partner introducing local promoters and venues to the Mixmag ANZ ticketing platform, built with Session Services; a local scout surfacing the artists, stories and events shaping their scene for Mixmag ANZ’s editorial team; and a community ambassador representing the brand with care and integrity on the ground, connecting artists, promoters and venues in their city.
The rollout reflects Mixmag ANZ’s founding ambition: to be at every local, every weekend. As a hyperlocal outlet, the publication is dedicated to celebrating the vibrant music scenes across the region and to using that momentum to create a musical ecosystem that doesn’t need to rely on global recognition.
The foundation of that ecosystem sees Mixmag ANZ and its ticketing partner, Session Services, look to provide a ticketing option which directly funds the development of more groundbreaking music journalism and content. By working with Mixmag ANZ on their tickets, local artists, promoters and festivals are directly funding the growth of a vibrant music scene.
The onboarding of these City Reps follows Mixmag ANZ’s partnership with culture-first agency noisy earlier this year, part of a broader push to grow its footprint across Australian and New Zealand dance music culture.
“Our City Reps are set to be the heartbeat of what we do locally,” said Shivani Sharma, partnerships and events manager at Mixmag ANZ. “They’re not salespeople; they’re peers, already inside the scenes we cover, now backed by the platform and reach of Mixmag ANZ. Having someone we trust on the ground in every city means we can give each scene the coverage and support it deserves.”
Jack Colquhoun, managing editor at Mixmag ANZ, added: “Local news gets results, and our City Reps are how we make sure no story, artist or scene across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand goes unheard. Music publications have long simply been mouthpieces for more established industry voices, and what we’re seeing now more than ever is that people are looking for something more nuanced. This is a huge moment not only for us, who are only here because of the incredible work that local artists, venues and festivals are doing, but for local communities who now have an even clearer embedded connection to music media.”
