Creative agency and audio shop, MIK Studio is set to launch Show Notes at SXSW Sydney—a series of panels and talks set to pull apart the world of podcasting and creator culture.
From 14-17 October, Australia’s leading voices will delve into the trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping an industry that feels both limitless and increasingly claustrophobic.
“This is not a celebration of podcasting. It’s an interrogation,” said Dylan Adams, partnerships director at MIK Studio.
ARIA Award-nominated audio producer and mix engineer, Adams has spearheaded several successful podcasts, including the award-winning Who is Daniel Johns? and The Inspired Unemployed. MIK has also helped develop AANA x B&T’s Brand Masters podcast.
“Podcasting in Australia is booming, but with growth comes questions. How do creators build shows that last? Where is the money, and who really benefits? What role do podcasts play in shaping public discourse? Show Notes brings members of the industry together to answer these questions,” added Adams.
Located at the ICC Sydney, the series opens the stage to creators such as Kayla Jade, whose candid experiences spark conversation, and Gary Jubelin, who has reinvented true crime for Australian audiences.
The likes of Spotify, Acast, Nova, Mamamia and more will join MIK Studio in digging into the business of ears and eyeballs: the vodcast boom, the growth of local audiences, and the new power of independence.
Show Notes also examines the intersection of podcasting and sports, with a panel hosted by Clubby Sports exploring how the medium is reshaping how sports media is created and consumed.
“We are doing something that we have not been able to do before at SXSW Sydney,” said Fenella Kernebone, head of conference at SXSW Sydney. “Bringing Australia’s most influential creators, producers, and media voices together on one stage lets us dig deep.
“As podcast audiences continue to grow at lightning speed in Australia and all around the world, we’re so excited to be meeting audiences where they’re at,“ said MIK Studio’s newly appointed head of content, Amelia Chappelow.
“MIK has always been a trailblazer in the content space, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with both fresh and familiar voices, launching new titles like The Moment with Myf Warhurst, Darren Palmer’s Almost Home, and video podcast projects with comedians Lizzy Hoo and Blair Socci (USA).
“We look forward to sharing our learnings with this ever-growing industry, and to be part of the global podcast stage at SXSW is an honour for our team.”
Show Notes is here to cut through the noise and unpack the cause behind the conversation.
The full Show Notes program will be released throughout September. Passes are on sale now.
