Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has announced a children’s book called The Bench, inspired by a poem she wrote for her husband Prince Harry for Father’s Day.
The book will be published on June 8 by Random House Children’s Books and illustrated by Christian Robinson.
In a statement from the publisher, Markle said, “The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born.”
“Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life; this representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens.”
The couples’ son Archie will turn two next week, and Markle is currently pregnant with their second child.
According to the publisher’s website, the book “[evokes] a deep sense of warmth, connection, and compassion.”
“The Duchess’s debut children’s book gives us a window into shared and enduring moments between a diverse group of fathers and sons.”
According to Vanity Fair, a source close to Markle said that she was a talented writer, and that “she wanted to have a go at writing a children’s book first and depending on the success of this, there will be more. She is also keen to write books for adults too.”
