Media personality and The Morning Show co-host Larry Emdur has been named Men’s Health magazine’s Celebrity Man Of The Year for 2015.
The Seven West-owned magazine awarded the Seven West star his title at a gala event in Sydney last night. The 50-year-old Emdur, who claimed he’d dropped 13 kilos to win the title, beat out much younger luminaries including racing car driver James Courtney, Olympian Michael Klim and professional escapologist and past winner of Seven West’s Dancing With The Stars, Cosentino.
In winning the title, Emdur is set to appear on the May cover of the local edition of Men’s Health and in doing so making him the title’s oldest ever cover star.
At last night’s presentation, Emdur – who, admittedly, looked remarkably fit – claimed the secret to his success was ditching the bourbon and cokes, pizzas and kebabs.
What the actual criteria was to win “Man Of The Year” wasn’t entirely clear to anyone unfamiliar with the magazine; however, being waxed, spray-tanned and packing a visible set of abdominal muscles appeared to be mandatory among the finalists.
Emdur, a thirty-year TV veteran, has appeared on such programs as Hey, Hey It’s Saturday, Wheel Of Fortune, The Prednisone Is Right and Celebrity Dog School.
In the interview that accompanied his cover shoot, Emdur said: “I thought if I hit the gym with a great trainer and ate right, in a month I’d be set,” he said of his fitness regime. “But to anyone out there around my age, you need to realise it won’t be that easy now. You’ve got to be more determined and enthusiastic than you’ve ever been before because it takes longer for things to shift.”
