CommBank’s CMO Jo Boundy is set to depart the bank for travel company Journey Beyond.
The four-time B&T CMO Power List inductee will remain with the bank until November. She is moving to the managing director role of resorts and lodges.
The resorts and lodges division will include responsibility for all of Journey Beyond’s resort and accommodation assets, including Ayers Rock Resort, Sal Salis, Monarto Safari Resort, Outback Spirit Lodges, the Kakadu Crocodile Hotel, and the incoming K’gari Island’s Kingfisher Bay Resort and K’gari Beach Resort.
Commenting on her appointment, Boundy said: “Journey Beyond has built an incredible collection of tourism experiences and destinations that showcase the very best of Australia. I’m excited to join the business at such an important time and work with the team to further strengthen these iconic properties, create exceptional guest experiences, and continue building demand for some of Australia’s most unique and extraordinary destinations.”
Prior to CommBank, Boundy was CMO for the Qantas Group and had also held the role of executive general manager, Qantas Group Hotels & Holidays.
“We’re delighted to welcome Jo to Journey Beyond,” said Chris Tallent, Journey Beyond CEO.
“Jo will lead our newly expanded Resorts & Lodges division at an exciting time for the business. Her deep commercial and customer experience expertise, combined with her proven track record of driving growth and leading high-performing teams, make her exceptionally well placed to strengthen our portfolio, grow demand across our destinations, elevate our guest and employee experiences, and deliver long-term value across the division,” Tallent said.
Boundy will be based in Sydney, commencing from 9 November.
“I’d like to thank and recognise Jo Boundy for her contribution to CBA over the past four and a half years,” said Monique Macleod, CBA group executive, marketing and corporate affairs.
“Jo has played an important role in evolving how we connect with customers, communities and the broader Australian public.
“During her time with us, CBA has been recognised as Australia’s most valuable brand by Brand Finance and the only Australian brand included in Kantar’s Global Top 100 ranking, and was recently named Australia’s most trusted bank at the 2026 Roy Morgan Most Trusted Brand Awards. We wish her well as she embarks on the next step in her career. The marketing team is well placed for the future.”
During her time with CommBank, Boundy has been instrumental in growing the bank’s brand and diversifying its core offering.
Last month, CommBank revealed it was planning a major shakeup of its Yello loyalty program.
“It’s also a banking first. Nobody else is doing this. A lot of the banks are coming out with changes to their credit card program. We’ve listened to what our customers really want and reimagined the whole thing to put value back in the hands of customers,” Boundy told B&T.
She also pioneered its Connect commerce media network.
“At the heart of it, ultimately, it’s all about our customers. We want to make sure we’re serving up more relevant content to our customers. We want to make sure we’re serving up offers and discounts from brands that they love,” she said.
