Independent branding and design agency Hulsbosch is celebrating 44 years in business, marking more than four decades of creating, evolving and shaping Australia’s most iconic and recognisable brands.
Founded in 1982 by Hans Hulsbosch, the agency has built its reputation on strategic thinking, creative excellence and a commitment to creating brands that make a lasting impact.
Hulsbosch said that it continues to champion an approach that puts the quality of the work, the strength of client partnerships and the power of great design first.
“Forty-four years is something we’re incredibly proud of, but our focus has never been simply on longevity. It’s about what we create, the relationships we build and the impact we make,” says Jaid Hulsbosch, Managing Director.
“We’ve never been interested in following the industry. Our ambition is to help shape its future, working with Australia’s most iconic businesses while creating the next generation of iconic brands. Our independence gives us the freedom to stay true to what matters most: the quality of our strategic thinking and our creative work.”
Built on people and partnerships
For client strategy director Carolyn Pitt, Hulsbosch’s longevity reflects the strength of its people, its collaborative culture and the trust it has established with clients over all these years.
“Great brands are built through collaboration, shared ambition and a deep understanding of a client’s business. Our role is to bring strategic clarity, creative thinking, and a real sense of being on the same team together to create brands that are distinctive, meaningful and commercially effective,” says Pitt.
“What makes Hulsbosch special is its people and the relationships we’ve built. Our culture allows talented people to learn, grow and contribute, while working together to deliver the highest standard of work.”
Uncompromising creative excellence
Creative director Marcel Wijnen believes independence remains a significant advantage, allowing Hulsbosch to pursue the best creative talent and best creative solutions without compromise.
“Independence gives us the freedom to challenge convention and focus on the quality of the work. Great design needs to do more than look good. It must solve problems, communicate meaning and deliver results for the businesses behind the brands,” says Wijnen.
Fellow creative director Mikey Hart sees the agency’s ability to evolve while protecting its creative foundations as central to its future.
“Technology, platforms and consumer expectations will continue to change, but the need for original thinking and ideas that make a difference remains. Our challenge isn’t to recreate what Hulsbosch was 44 years ago. It’s to take what makes us great and keep pushing it forward,” Hart said.
As Hulsbosch celebrates its 44th year, four principles continue to underpin its approach to branding and design:
Make it matter: Design should earn attention and create meaning.
Make it simple: Complex problems demand simple, powerful solutions.
Make it work: Beautiful is not enough. Design has to perform.
Make it last: Trends expire. Iconic brands endure.
These principles reflect Hulsbosch’s belief that great branding must combine strategic thinking, creative ambition and commercial performance to build brands that remain relevant and valuable over time.
“We’re proud of our history, our clients and the people who’ve helped shape this agency. But we’re equally excited about what’s ahead. We’re here to keep making great work, building enduring partnerships and creating brands that matter,” Jaid Hulsbosch said.
