STV Productions and GroupM Entertainment has finalised a format deal for a new hard-hitting documentary series examining life behind prison bars with leading Australian broadcaster Nine Network.
Prison: First & Last 24 Hours follows convicted criminals on the two most important days of any sentence: the first and the last 24 hours.
The UK version of Prison: First & Last 24 Hours saw STV productions gain unprecedented access to four prisons in Scotland. It made its debut on Sky 1 last night.
Viewers are given an insight into the reality of being in prison and the regrets and loneliness that will accompany prisoners over the weeks, months and years of their sentences.
The Nine Network will produce a compelling eight-part series-taking Australian viewers on an incredible journey through the eyes of inmates as they face their first 24 hours behind bars.
Nine Network Australia’s director of television Michael Healy said, “Nine Productions are excited to be working with STV and GroupM Entertainment on what will be a incredibly powerful series. For the first time Australian audiences will experience the raw emotion and stark realities of prisoners not only entering but also leaving the prison system.”
STV Productions Commercial Director, Paul Sheehan said: “When we took Prison: First & Last 24 Hours to Mipcom in October it received an excellent reception. It is a truly transferable concept and we are delighted to be working with Nine Network. They have grasped a great opportunity to create an honest and compelling insight into life behind bars.”
