BBC One sports broadcaster Gary Lineker lost a bet over the weekend and had to present the news in his undies on British TV.

The stunt came after Lineker, a retired English football player, promised to strip if his team Leicester FC won the 2016 Premier League. After Leicester held onto top spot by beating Chelsea 2-1 last December, Lineker posted on Twitter:

YES! If Leicester win the @premierleague I’ll do the first MOTD of next season in just my undies.

— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) December 14, 2015

The 55-year-old was true to his word, introducing the BBC’s Match of the Day programme wearing just a pair of white boxer shorts.

Thanks for joining us… and, yes, he did it… #garyspants #MOTD https://t.co/hCRvUw9Ypd

The underwear brand Sunspel which makes the cotton boxer shorts, scored too. According to Sunspel, the niche brand saw its Instagram following boosted by 1 per cent.

The undie brand took to social media to talk up its appearance:

In case you missed it: Here’s @Garylineker hosting #MatchoftheDay in our classic boxer shorts. Well done Gary! #GaryLineker

Thank heavens that’s all over. Thanks to @Sunspel for the boxers and to @handandlock for the… https://t.co/gwZFxC0YEJ
