Feminist News Platform Nasty Woman Club Launches A Petition To Boycott Seven

The founder of independent news platform Nasty Woman Club, Demi Lynch has started an online petition for Aussies to boycott Channel Seven in lieu of several scandals over the last year.

The petition that has been active for less than a day has already racked up over 500 signatures on change.org and is being shared via social media.

Lynch took to the Nasty Woman Club’s Instagram to share the petition. The account has a loyal following of over 17 thousand followers and is described as, “your go-to platform for all things intersectional feminism.”

Lynch cited racism and misogyny as the reasons Australians should stop tuning into the station. The petition is calling on Australians to unfollow all Channel Seven social media accounts and stop watching the network.

Lynch wrote: “Seven Network continues to use its platform to endanger marginalised communities and promote redemption stories for abusive men.

“Enough is enough! It’s up to us to boycott this network so they finally realise their dangerous actions have consequences.”

Lynch then compiled a list of reasons the Seven Network should be boycotted

  • Wrongfully identified Nyamal man Terry Flowers as Cleo Smith’s abductor.
  • Broadcasted an interview with Craig McLachlan after he was accused of assault and sexual harassment.
  • Cast controversial British commentator Katie Hopkins for Big Brother VIP.  Despite knowing her history of racism.
  • Writing a racist headline about English soccer stars Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho.
  • Giving Sam Burgess a platform on ‘SAS Australia’ despite being accused of domestic violence.
  • Cast Wayne Carey on The All New Monty: Guys and Gals and next year’s SAS Australia despite having a long history of violence against women.

The Nasty Woman Club is run by Lynch and covers the Australian media through a feminist lens and often calls out publications or networks for sexist behaviour. Interestingly, this is the first time Lynch has launched a petition against a particular network.

However, less than 24 hours after Lynch made the petition live, her Instagram account was deleted and she’s been forced to use her backup account.

Lynch wrote: “What does this mean for my #boycottchannel7 petition? I have no idea. I just feel numb.”
