Domain Uses Drones To Help Reshape Australia’s Property Information Infrastructure

Domain has established an in-house team of photography and drone pilot specialists to support advanced 3D rendering and visualisation as core infrastructure.

The investment underpins the nationwide rollout of immersive, Matterport‑powered 3D property experiences directly within Domain listings. This is not as an add‑on, but as a new baseline for property presentation.

Operating under standardised national safety, operational and data‑quality frameworks, the team aims to establish a new industry “floor” for property presentation across Australia.

Features available through Matterport: Interactive floorplans and full-property mapping, including drone-captured exteriors; The ability to virtually remove furniture “defurnish” to reveal a home’s underlying potential; Point-to-Point accurate room measurements generated automatically from the 3D capture; Photorealistic 3D visualisation powered by Gaussian splat, with lifelike digital twins that give buyers a ‘Dollshouse’ sense of scale, proportion and layout; High-quality 4K photography and floorplans captured in a single, integrated workflow; Digital booking system enabling seamless, real-time booking of property capture.

Domain president Jason Pellegrino said: “This is Australia’s first fully end‑to‑end system for capturing deeply immersive property imagery,”

“We’ve brought together in‑house capability, instant app‑based bookings for agents — not unlike reserving a restaurant or medical appointment — and seamless integration of 3D assets directly into listings.

“By bringing these roles in‑house, we’re creating stable, high‑skill jobs supported by consistent safety frameworks and professional development. We’re raising the bar for the industry and ensuring every operator working in local communities is fully licensed, insured and operating to a national gold standard.

“Including these experiences in our most popular agent package removes cost barriers for sellers and makes listings more engaging and informative. Buyers can explore a home in detail before inspection and revisit it anytime, while sellers can showcase their property at its very best without worrying about extra fees or logistics.”

The service will be available to vendors on Domain’s marketing package. It is available on launch for more than 1,700 suburbs in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, and the Gold Coast starting 1 July 2026.
