Award-winning, Australian digital consultancy Appscore has appointed former executive director of engineering at CHE Proximity Hoang Nguyen (pictured) to the newly created role of director, digital & engineering practice.
In this role Nguyen will form part of the company’s core technology leadership team and will work closely with the Strategy and Advisory practice to provide clients technological strategy and vision and best in class delivery & execution.
The role was created in response to an impressive year of business where the company experienced 150 per cent YoY growth, opening offices in Sydney and Brisbane, in addition to setting their sights on international expansion.
Appscore managing director and cofounder, Alex Louey, said, “Meeting Hoang was a breath of fresh air and we knew he would be a great fit for this new role.
“His experience in leading and delivering projects from large enterprise and content platforms to creative technology and disruptive tech for startups; make him a natural fit.”
“Appscore emerged from 2020 in a very strong position and having Hoang has part of our newly formed, technology leadership team will help us to continue improving the breadth and quality of work that we deliver to our clients.”
Nguyen, who started programming at the age of six, was awarded a software patent by age 12 and has received numerous international Information and Communications Technology (ICT) awards in the APAC and from the United Nations. Hoang is also a recipient of many industrial awards from Adobe, AWS, Microsoft and the Australian Computer Society.
In 2011 he moved to Melbourne as an international student and graduated top of the Victorian state on scholarship at La Trobe University. His career took an unexpected twist which saw him land a job as a developer and become a solution architect at several agencies.
In his most recent role as director of engineering at CHE proximity, he was responsible for leading the engineering department consisting of 40 architects, developers, quality assurance consultants and marketing automation specialists.
Hoang Nguyen said, “I am really excited to be joining the team at Appscore. Technology is at the heart of every solution and in this newly created role I have an opportunity to keep offering new and innovative ways to help our customers solve business problems with solutions that are technology agnostic.
“I have been mentoring and leading teams for several years now and what possibly sets me apart from other leaders is my understanding and love for all things code and getting my hands dirty. I thrive on keeping up to date with the latest technologies and trialing them in order to filter cutting-edge from bleeding-edge, build up use-cases, establish implementation plans, and then roll them out to clients. The key is striking a balance between pushing for the latest ‘best practice’ in tech (and often, taming my own excitement) and the practical considerations of the clients’ existing ecosystem.”
Founded in 2010 by Alexy Louey and five time AFR young rich lister Nick Bell, Appscore focuses on creating strategies and great digital experiences across Mobile, Web, Cloud and Data for clients including CUB, NAB, SAMSUNG, Miele, Australia Post, VISY, FitnessFirst, SunCorp, Medibank, and MYOB.
In recent months they have been recognised with several awards including the 2020 Telstra Enterprise Purple Partner of the Year, Australian Mobile Awards Winner, iAwards Winner – Australian Information Industry Association and Stevie’s 3x Winner – Excellence in Business Award.
