Over the next 10 days, Brisbane’s Fairfax Radio Network stations will broadcast live from their purpose-built broadcast facilities at The Royal Queensland Show.

This year marks the 138th Ekka show and 4BC and Magic 882 are proud to be associated with such an iconic event, bringing with it a variety of talent, culture, fun and entertainment.

4BC Breakfast champs Ian Skippen and Loretta Ryan had the first glimpse of the 2014 show broadcasting live from 5am today as well as sharing the latest information on Queensland’s biggest and most loved event.

“The Ekka has never looked so good and our studios are in prime position to meet the colourful characters that make the show so unique every year,” said Skippen.

Ryan added: “There are so many great stories to be told each year from those who make the annual pilgrimage from the country to the city.”

4BC will broadcast more than 12 hours of radio every day from the Ekka.

This also marks the first time Magic 882 has broadcast from the Ekka following the station’s successful launch in January this year. Magic 882 will broadcast more than eight hours of local radio every day from the Ekka.

Magic 882 will feature at the Ekka with some of the stars of music there to lend a helping hand. Throughout the show, Ekka listeners will have the chance to score a photo with Robbie Williams, Cher, Rod Stewart, Adele and Dolly Parton.  The life-size cardboard cut-outs are part of the broadcast facilities to help spread the message about the music Magic 882 plays.

“We’re excited about bringing Magic 882 to the Ekka in 2014 with a new look studio and sound,” said 4BC and Magic 882 general manager Anthony Frangi.

Fashion and food are just a taste of what some journalism students from the University of Queensland (UQ) will experience this year at the Ekka. 4BC is teaming up with the School of Journalism and Communication to give three students an opportunity to work in the field during the show, producing content for 4BC.

Frangi said the joint program with UQ gives students hand-on experience in researching and compiling stories for radio.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their skills and passion for journalism,” he said.  “We believe this will be an ongoing partnership.”
