Jun Lee Sia has urged young women entering the technology and automotive sectors to back themselves and not be intimidated by what she describes as “a very male-dominated industry”, following her win at the 2026 Women Leading Tech Awards.
The carsales.com.au marketing leader was recognised for her work driving one of the most significant brand refreshes in the company’s 25-year history, modernising its marketplace ecosystem and delivering measurable gains across awareness, acquisition and engagement.
carsales.com.au saw brand awareness lift to 93 per cent following the refresh, alongside strong growth among key audiences including a 10 per cent uplift among Gen Z, an 8 per cent uplift among women, and increased engagement from new Australians. Total users increased by 7 per cent, while new users grew 29 per cent during the period.
Speaking to B&T after her win at the Women Leading Tech Awards, Sia said the recognition was especially meaningful given the ongoing challenges women face in tech and automotive.
“It’s amazing to be amongst all these other women who’ve done such incredible things in the industry, and to be recognised as one of them as well,” she said. “Sometimes in the industry we take for granted how hard we have to fight for our position, and to make sure we’re carving the path for others as well.”
Asked what advice she would give to young women entering the industry, Sia encouraged self-belief in the face of uncertainty.
“The young women out there just need to know to have a go,” she said. “You know as much as anyone else out there.”
She also highlighted the importance of mentorship and support networks in helping women progress.
“There’ll always be other women out there to mentor you and guide you along the way,” she said.
Reflecting on her own journey, Sia pointed to a simple but powerful message she would give her younger self.
“Whenever in doubt, just back yourself,” she said.
